evros delta reimagined

A series of landscape interventions in the Evros River Delta, Greece

Evros River is located in Northern Greece and forms the physical border between Greece and Turkey. Its Delta is one of the most important wetlands in Europe, home to rich vegetation and endangered bird species. Neglected by the local community, the area is suffering from water pollution, illegal hunting, and vehicles trespassing environmentally sensitive areas. The proposal attempts to redefine the relationship between people and the landscape, contributing to the area’s sustainable development and providing a network of spaces that support environmental, educational and cultural opportunities. The project creates a path along the historic footprint of the river and proposes a series of small-scale wooden pavilions that draw inspiration from and blend with their natural surroundings. These subtle interventions consist of an information kiosk, a research unit, an exhibition pavilion and two bird-observation platforms. Each one offers visitors a unique experience, enticing them to connect with nature and the place through their senses.
